Sarah Silverman, Leslie Jones Return to Daily Show as Host Search Continues

Sarah Silverman and Leslie Jones will each get another crack at guest-hosting Comedy Central‘s “Daily Show” as the network continues a protracted search for a replacement for Trevor Noah behind the desk of the venerable late-night mainstay.
Executives at the network intend to put the program back into production starting Monday, October 16, and will continue to rely on guests as they have since Noah departed late last year. Like other late-night shows, “Daily” has been dark for weeks, owing to the Hollywood writers’ strike. Unlike its contemporaries, however, the program has been without a steady on-camera figure as a lead.
Michael Kosta, one of the show’s contributors, will take on hosting duties for its first week in production. He will be followed in subsequent weeks by Desus Nice, Charlamagne tha God, Silverman, Jones, the entire team of contributors and Michelle Wolf. Various contributor tag teams are likely to host at later dates. The network has articulated a plan of having a new permanent “Daily” host in place for 2024.

The return of Jones and Silverman suggests the network continues to be interested in them as candidates. Comedy Central had eyed Hasan Minhaj as a potential lead for the role, according to previous reporting by Variety, but his position has been made less certain due to a recent controversy spurred by a profile in The New Yorker, which found Minhaj had embellished details in some of his autobiographical stand-up routines.

Comedy Central has never acknowledged publicly that Minhaj was under consideration.
Jones was among the first celebrities to step in as a guest, with Silverman following her a few weeks later. Executives at the Paramount Global network are said to be eager to study audience research and get another look at how a few personalities handle the job.
