Basildon's Big Switch On

Basildon gets ready to light for Christmas - with a new home for the Big Switch On.

Organised by Basildon Borough Council, this year's event takes place on Saturday 19th November with the main stage located in the Town Square.

The switch on at 6pm is the climax of a day of festive family fun, with a Christmas market, fairground rides, face painters and the Heart Angels in the Town Square from 11am.

Of course, it wouldn't be Christmas without a visit from Santa! There will be a parade to drop off Santa at his grotto in the Eastgate Shopping Centre from 11.15am.

The Rotary Club of Basildon Concord will be hosting a Santa Fun Run at 12pm, starting at St Martin's Square

There will be live music on the Heart stage from 3pm until 6pm, hosted by Heart presenters Matt Mackay and AJ. Singer Josh Dubovie will be performing some Christmas classics to get everyone in the mood for the official countdown to the switch on from 5.30pm, featuring the cast of this year's Basildon pantomime, Dick Whittington.

Then Basildon lights up with the big switch on at 6pm, followed by a firework display.
